India celebrates its 63rd Republic Day today, and though actor Kareena Kapoor reveals that like many B-Towners, she will be working today, she does admit that she can’t help, but feel the patriotic fervour in the air.

“Be it the fare that’s aired on TV or the songs played on loudspeakers across schools, I think it always gives us a sense of pride. It’s almost electric! I am proud to be an Indian, every single day of my life, but it’s on a special day like this when you see everyone channeling their thoughts towards thinking about the country as one,” says the actor.

“Every time when we travel abroad and there are people who recognise us as Indian actors, is that one moment when we beam with pride. It’s almost like you represent the country on some level and you feel so proud to be an Indian,” she adds.

What makes it increasingly special this time around, feels Kareena, is the intensified way in which a wave of the much-needed change has been pushing to spread since the last year.

“With the entire Anna Hazare anti-corruption movement and all happening, it seems like a change is waiting to happen again and I think the country’s ready for it too. The way the country united when one man took a stand against corruption says a lot,” she says.

As a child too, Kareena recalls celebrating the Day. “Of course back then it was all about celebrating the day in school and it also meant no studies and getting the rest of the day off, but over time I think we learn to appreciate the true meaning of the day and it’s hard now not to count our blessings to be born in a free democratic country,” shares Kareena.
