Two years ago, Sallu took it upon himself to rehabilitate Govinda, who once ruled Bollywood but after his years in Parliament had bee left with no work and little money.
His political career hasn't gone anywhere either. With Partner, the comedy in which he starred opposite Salman's girlfriend Katreena, he made a comeback and has been seen quite regularly in films since.
"The film is romantic comedy and some shooting is remaining," the friend added, "he considers Salman bhai as his true friend and for his friendship he decided to do this role - though it's not a big part.”
Govinda, when we spoke to him didn't have much to say about the movie: "I really can't speak about my role - I want the audience to see the film instead," he said.
Main Aur Mrs Khanna is about a married couple that will be played by Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The couple is happy till Kareena falls in love with a club worker played by Sohail Khan. After this the relationship breaks up and a marriage Counselor tries to patch up things between them.
The Counselor is Nandu, played by Govinda.
Incidentally, Shah Rukh Khan was supposed to do a special appearance in the movie - quite possibly Nandu's role - till the spat between him and Salman put an end to that.
The film is being directed by debutant Prem Soni and is being produced by Sohail Khan.
